Five solo singers – Liam, Harry Styles, Zane Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson – were put together by Simon Cowell and took third place in the competition.
Following the talent show, One Direction had an intense six years in the music industry, selling more than 70 million records worldwide and reaching number four in the UK on various world tours.

He added, “It was wild, but it was the only way to get out of disappointment.” Then he spoke openly about what his daily life was like during the band’s frequent tours. The 27-year-old said: “We were always locked in a hotel room at night, then it would be a car, a hotel room, a stage, singing, being locked up.”
